Welcome to Retroville! It's 1942!
In 1942, Bing Crosby's White Christmas began its climb to become the number one selling single of all time. With words and music by Irving Berlin, the song first appeared in Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn, a 1942 Paramount Picture. The movie starred Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire and Marjorie Reynolds.

The song was number one for eleven weeks in 1942 and returned to number one in 1945 and 1946. It has made the chart in every Christmas season but one from 1942 to 1962. Its success inspired the 1954 movie White Christmas starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney.

The Lyrics:

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright

And may all your Christmases be white
